The Institute of Ecology and Genetics of Microorganisms was organized in 1988 on the basis of the Department of Breeding and Genetics of Microorganisms of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The first director ( 1988 - 2003) was academician Valery Aleksandrovich Chereshnev. Currently, the institute includes 8 scientific divisions. In 2017, the Institute became part of Perm Federal Research Center UB RAS.
Director - Vitaly Alekseevich Demakov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medicine, Professor.
